Zirconium in all its splendor. This Resurgence showcases zirconium in three of its many forms, highlighting its remarkable versatility and showing why we love to work with it. In its raw state, zirconium has a lustrous, silvery-gray appearance, seen here in the chapter rings. The dial itself is PVD'd zirconium to add a brilliant blue finish.

Our in-house blackened zirconium case finishes off the watch providing a robust molecular-level change in the metal itself, making it exceptionally hard and durable. The color won’t chip, fade, or scratch like a paint or coating (and trust us, we’ve tried!) The result is a finish with an almost ceramic-like appearance, while maintaining the strength of metal.

One metal, three colors, and a little alchemy, handcrafted here in California.

Introducing our first Resurgence with Arabic numerals. And yes, this video was shot in full color! The blackened zirconium case and dial, paired with white gold and silver dial accents, create this fully monochromatic palette, without the black-and-white filter.

As all true watch enthusiasts know, a watch is far more than an instrument for telling time. The perfect watch can be an expression of a collector's style, personality, and culture. This Resurgence blends all three beautifully to create something unique and meaningful.

Head to our website to use the Resurgence Configurator and share your dream watch. Then watch that dream become a reality!

Introducing a first-ever for J.N. Shapiro: Openworking.

The process to openwork a movement is as complicated as it looks: all metal not structurally necessary is carefully removed, and then all edges and angles are painstakingly polished by hand to a sparkling mirror finish. It is a process only achievable by the most talented artisans showing off their next-level skills. The end result is not just a work of art, but an avenue to see more of the engineering that went into your piece.

Seen here on the curved bridge of our Motion movement, but available for a full movement as well. Currently accepting new orders; inquire via messages or on our website.

Introducing our newest creation: the Infinity Radiant.

Two dial options, each entirely one of a kind. The first pairs the Infinity Weave with meteorite, an exceptionally challenging feat with the guilloche cut directly into the subdial of the space metal itself. The second features a dial fully hand-guilloched with Shapiro’s signature Infinity Weave, its rich blue color achieved through a precise and delicate heat-treatment process.

Which version is your favorite?

My Dad passed away yesterday after a year and a half long battle with Glioblastoma, an incurable aggressive brain cancer. While this is deeply personal, something I stay away from on IG, my Dad loved this company. He was a hands on person, and while he was always supportive of my educational career, watchmaking/machining/ old equipment was something he loved too and could really get behind. The first picture is my Dad and I at the range together for the last time. The second picture is him setting up the air at our current workshop. He owned the family sandblasting business and ran it for his entire adult life. Sandblasting is all about air pressure and he was an expert. Rest in Peace and Baruch Dayan Haemes Dad. Thanks for everything you taught me and gave me.

At first glance this may look like a familiar Resurgence, but this piece is actually a one-of-a-kind example of what our talented team here in California can create when a client’s passion drives the design (no pun intended).

For this commission our client wanted to combine two of his great loves: horology and F4 racing. To accomplish this our in-house master engraver @arturakmaev_watches hand-carved a photo of a dynamic race scene directly into the center case, capturing the energy of the track in miniature form.

For most watches this would not be possible, but the unique construction of our Resurgence case allows not only midcase guilloché, but also intricate midcase engraving. The Resurgence is truly your canvas!

We are proud to present our first Resurgence in rose gold with Roman numerals. The dial is zirconium, naturally heat-treated to turn the originally grayish-white metal into a rich black. Blackened zirconium has become a signature look for us here at JN Shapiro as it shows off our hand-guilloched dials beautifully.

Heat-treating metals to change their color, seen most often as blued steel, has been used in watchmaking almost since its inception, but it remains a delicate and refined art. The final effect is classic, elegant, and refined.

Lest you think this piece is too classic, look to our next post to see the little surprise this piece is hiding…

The movement is created with the same attention to detail once found in early American workshops: steady, deliberate, exacting.

And because no two collectors are the same, every watch is fully customizable to create a personal interpretation of a shared tradition.

Resurgence: American watchmaking, restored.

Created entirely in the USA, from raw material to

Created entirely in the USA, from raw material to final regulation, Resurgence marks the return of American watchmaking, the first of its kind in generations.

The stepped guilloche dial, created by hand on a rose-engine machine from the 1900's, served as a connection to the past as a devotion to craft.

The innovative use of materials, including blackened zirconium and tantalum, look to the future of what modern watchmaking can be. Resurgence is a step in a new direction.

Designed, machined, finished, and assembled entire

Designed, machined, finished, and assembled entirely in the United States, the Resurgence lives up to its name: a true resurgence of American watchmaking.

Fully customizable in metal, movement, and dial details, each piece is built with the wearer in mind, not mass production.

Resurgence is not just a watch. It is a revival of tradition, made right here at home.

Here is the Sliding Pinion, one of the most difficult parts in a watch to manufacture, and yet it’s one that no one talks about. It feels good manufacturing a part that hasn’t been in mass production in this country in sixty years. It’s just one of the many difficult parts that go unseen in the Resurgence.

A recently completed Resurgence, this time featuring another first for our company. The watch has White Gold case with White Gold accents and Frosted Silver dial. What makes it a first for us however is the applied numerals. Hebrew numerals applied at 3, 9, and 12, and mirror polished studs for the remaining hours. We are very proud of how this combination came out!
